“If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies”
30/10/2020After 3 years laying a solid foundation, the time has come for WDFD Records to evolve and look at new ways of furthering the effort to help bands achieve their potential.
There’s no disguising the fact that these are unprecedented times, and as such, having the support of like-minded people to keep you motivated, give fresh perspectives, and contribute to ideas, is invaluable. WDFD is therefore over the moon to be joined by an Englishman, an Irishman and TWO Scotsmen.
WDFD Records Team, Assemble!
We very much hope you will give hearty congratulations/commiserations to Keith Large, Dave O’Hara, Pete K Mally, and Chris Stones.
Keith Large is local to WDFD and has many years’ experience both as a vocalist in bands and as a promoter for the 76 club and Needwood Blues & Folk Club.
“I love the whole ethos of WDFD Records who actively help young bands on their road to stardom. To me there is nothing better than seeing a band mature into confident songwriters and releasing songs & videos for their fans. Watching young bands perform on stage is my ideal way to spend a day.”
Dave O’Hara’s journey in the music industry was re-lit by helping some 9 year-old kids form a band, which progressed to putting on events, arranging tours, putting on a couple of local festivals, then moved into band management. He is the manager of Tomorrow Is Lost and the Operations & Financial Director of Call of The Wild Festival.
“The ONLY reason for all of it has been to help young bands progress, to do all I can to help them find a way to cut through the noise and maybe be able to make a living out of doing what they love to do. All of this lead to me meeting Keith a few years back, we talked a few times about all sorts of crap but the overriding subject was the state of our industry, the bands getting trampled on, ripped off and dumped on the scrap heap all so someone could make a few quid and has now culminated in me being proud to join Keith and his team at WDFD Records in a bid to do all we can to help young bands achieve their goals, whatever they might be. The industry needs to change, in a huge way, especially post COVID, WDFD Records has an ethos that can and will help drive that change at the grass roots level.”
Pete K Mally is a weekly rock radio presenter, author, comedian, and festival compere and has an MA in Musical Enterprise. He was the support for The Wayward Sons for their first UK Headline tour and believes that old ways can’t open new doors,”
“Working with a record label such as WDFD, whose professionalism, ethics and support network precedes it is an honour.”
Chris Stones has managed several bands across the UK and has worked as both journalist and Director in music media. He has undertaken various roles in live music production, has been a working musician since the 80s and had 30 years in public sector in leadership roles as well as being a Qualified mentor.
“I’ve held a number of roles in the music industry and was looking for another opportunity working with good people doing great things. I was introduced to Keith at WDFD and following some honest conversations about the good and bad sides of the business, I was fortunate to be offered the chance to work with the team. Despite the challenges facing artists just now, there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it isn’t a train.”
We at WDFD are thrilled to be working with such a fantastic team of people who share our ethos, are excited about the what the future holds, and are enthusiastic about discovering new ways of working within the industry. Together, we can achieve anything.
